The Data Centre is part of the key infrastructure at The UNSW Analytical Centre. Through the Data Centre, all the experimental
results and mission critical data are stored, backed up and archived. As a part of the e-Research capabilities of the
Analytical Centre, the Data Centre provides a common platform for knowledge and information sharing, data storing, sharing,
analysis and mining, which enable researchers to perform their research more creatively, efficiently and collaboratively
across long distances and disseminate their research outcomes with greater effect.
At the Analytical Centre, a data archiving solution has been developed to index large data sets, which makes data search and
lookup very efficient. Furthermore, this involves collaboration with the NANO project
GRANI - Grid-enabled Archive of
Nanostructural Imagery for the NANO community, which aims to investigate and provide a technological solution that will
enable the NANO nodes to share their NANO-structural images and data. Thanks to a forthcoming distributed data management
infrastructure that will enable efficient file sharing and further the development of advanced knowledge mining services,
we will be able to further enhance our data centre capabilities and provide high quality e-Research services.
Currently, the Data Centre provides up to 10 TB data storage space and users can access their data through the internet
anywhere in the world. Data files have been classified by research unit. Please contact the respective Units/Facilities
for data access set-up and permission.
You can access data through Internet Explorer with the limitation to single data file access each time. Alternatively, you can use FTP Client
software available on market to access multiple data files. On Windows computers, we recommend to download and install FREE
Core FTP Client.
