Bruker Dimension ICON SPM

The Bruker Dimension ICON SPM operates in a scanning probe configuration and is therefore able to accommodate samples up to 210mm in diameter with a thickness up to 15mm. Depending on the sample, the scan size can be up to 100µm2 (with a maximum feature height of ~10µm). The ICON is contained within a very effective vibration isolation unit, which allows for Z resolution of ~1nm. The ICON is equipped with proprietary ScanAsyst® image optimization technology which makes the system very easy to use and allows for consistent results.

Cox Analytical XRF Corescanner

The ITRAX was installed in 2013. The instrument is designed for 1-dimensional ED-XRF elemental analysis of sediment and geological cores with step sizes down to 100 micron, and can handle cores (or any other sample <10 cm in width) up to 1.75 meters. Elemental anlaysis can be provided as X-ray counts, or as semiquantitative, or quantitative concentrations, depending on the sample type. The instrument enables high resolution visible and X-radiographic imaging, plus magnetic susceptibility for sediment core alignment.

Cri Nuance

The Cri Nuance system is a unique camera capable of spectral analysis and spectral unmixing. The camera is capable of detecting wavelengths between 450 and 950nm with < 10nm spectral resolution. We have linked the Nuance system to a Leica DMIRB inverted, epifluorescent microscope equipped with 3 excitation filters: a near UV (340-380 Band Pass), a blue (450-490nm), and a green (515-560).

D8 (Bruker) Thin-Film XRD with 5kW Rotating Anode

The D8 is a flexible instrument with a rotating copper anode X-ray source (5-6 kW) that enables a higher X-ray flux at your sample than is possible with the sealed X-ray sources on the other instruments. It uses a centric Eulerian cradle that integrates Chi and Phi rotations, and X-Y-Z translations. The instrument can be set up with a 1-dimensional compound silicon strip detector (the "Lynx-Eye") for ultra fast X-ray diffraction measurements, as well as a large area detector (the "VÅNTEC-500" with 13.5 cm diameter) for 2D XRD experiments including RSM and diffraction mapping.

Empyrean 3 (PANalytical) XRD with Ag source and PSD

The Empyrean 3 is fitted with a silver source and a position-sensitive detector to instantly capture a wide 2-theta angular range during an in situ XRD experiment without the need to scan the detector. The instrument can run capillary samples and the high energy silver source also enables the instrument to perform the pair distribution function (PDF) experiment that describes the distribution of distances between pairs of atoms within a material.
