Capability and Support

The Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Facility (BMSF), at UNSW's upper and lower campus sites, provides advanced mass spectrometric research capabilities in Proteomics, Metabolomics, Lipidomics and IRMS.  The BMSF maintains an up-to-date range of LC-MS, GC-MS and associated instruments together with data processing workstations required for routine and trace analysis. BMSF staff are experienced analytical scientists with many years’ experience in Proteomics, Metabolomics and small molecule quantitative assays. They can either undertake analysis for you or support your research by training you or your research staff/students to operate the mass spectrometers and separation devices in the facility. This expertise allows efficient set-up of bespoke assays or new experimental protocols.

If your research requires ongoing support from a BMSF scientist, where significant intellectual input is sought in achieving research outcomes, the BMSF may propose a collaborative arrangement. Collaborative assistance may involve extensive participation in experiment design, method development, data analysis and interpretation. Many researchers who use the BMSF seek assistance in writing parts of their research grants in order to support the access costs of using the equipment.
