Dr Arnab Chakraborty is a material scientist specializing in microstructure engineering and advanced characterization techniques. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, and a master’s degree in Production Engineering. Arnab did his PhD in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, UNSW Sydney graduating in 2022 and joined the EMU as a Technical Officer. A native of India, Arnab, prior to his PhD worked in TATA Steel (R&D) as a Research Associate on product development of automotive and line-pipe grade steels. His PhD thesis and research interest span across alloy designing, thermokinetic simulations, thermo-mechanical process optimization, material characterization (Dilatometry, SEM-EDS, EBSD, TEM) in low-medium carbon microalloyed, armour grade, and rebar steels to achieve improved mechanical properties. In the EMU, his role is to supervise and train new users on several scanning electron microscopes and associated techniques such as electron back scattered diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, micro-probe analysis, cathodoluminescence microscopy, and sample preparation (bulk, powder, and coating).
