Stats Central Discussion

Facilities

Stats Central is starting a monthly discussion of statistical issues and interesting ideas.  On the first Friday of each month, we will discuss a journal article, learn about interesting applications of statistics, or present our own work or ideas.  We want to encourage an informal and friendly atmosphere in which biostatisticians, consultants and applied researchers interested in statistical issues can get together and talk shop.  Please join us for our first get-together on September 2.

Recently Basic and Applied Social Psychology banned the use of p-values in published articles.  The American Statistical Association also released a statement about the proper use and interpretation of p-values in research. Should we be relying on p-values and null hypothesis testing? Or should we look to other methods to supplement to replace our current ones? Please join us for an informal discussion on the use and misuse of p-values in our research.
