New Users

cross section of multiphase sample

In the EMU we strive to help our users become independent operators of our instruments. We believe the person undertaking the research has the best understanding of the sample and the research question. After basic training is completed, we encourage our users to work with senior or more experienced members within their groups to optimize their instrument use and assist with their experimental design.

Please note that some instruments are regularly booked weeks in advance, particularly in the year's second half when many Honours and 4th-year students finish their projects. We encourage users to plan their usage in advance to ensure they can complete their work.

UNSW students and staff

To register to use EMU facilities, please follow the instructions outlined on the How to Register page. Once registration is complete, you can apply for training on our instruments. More information on training is available on the EMU Training page.

Users external to UNSW

In most cases, external users have access to the same training and instrumentation as users from UNSW. The external charge rates can be found here. Please email emutrainingenquiries@unsw.edu.au with a brief description of your specimen and the required results. We will help connect you with the appropriate staff member for training.

Commercial enquiries

The EMU is open to all commercial work. Please contact our Industry Aplications Scientist, Dr Simon Hager, or visit our Industry Solutions page.
